Leap Reader is an independent, read-only app for viewing information on supported TFI Leap Cards. It is not affiliated with Transport for Ireland, the National Transport Authority or Leap Card.
What the app does
Leap Reader reads a supported physical Leap Card using your phone’s NFC feature. It displays information such as your available balance, recent card activity and, where possible, an estimated TFI 90-minute fare status.
The app never changes your card, balance, tickets or stored information. It cannot top up a card.
Information handling
Leap Reader does not create accounts and does not use advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
Card information shown by the app, including balance and recent activity, stays in your device’s memory while the app is open. It is not stored by the app or sent to UserJourneys.
To authenticate a card read, the app sends the minimum technical card and cryptographic information required to TFI’s card authentication service over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Leap Reader does not send your displayed balance or full journey history to UserJourneys or any other service.
Retention and deletion
User Journeys does not retain card data or maintain user accounts, so it has no user data to delete. Card information held in memory is discarded when the app process ends. User Journeys cannot access or delete information processed by TFI’s card authentication service at tnfc.leaptopup.com.
