Bus Journeys is an independent app for finding public transport stops near you in Ireland and seeing when the next services are due. It is not affiliated with Transport for Ireland, the National Transport Authority or any transport operator.
What the app does
Bus Journeys shows nearby stops on a map, the routes that serve them, and their scheduled and live departure times. You can save stops as favourites. It uses public timetable and live departure data published by the National Transport Authority.
The app is not a journey planner and does not track your trips.
Information handling
Bus Journeys does not create accounts and does not use advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
If you allow it, the app uses your phone’s location to centre the map and sort the stops near you. Approximate location is enough, and the app works without it: you can move the map to any area yourself. Location is used only while the app is open on screen. It is not stored by the app or sent to User Journeys or anyone else.
Favourite stops are stored only on your phone.
The app connects over encrypted HTTPS connections to:
- Transport for Ireland, to download public timetables when the app is set up and to check for updates, at most once a day.
- The Bus Journeys live departures service, run by User Journeys on Cloudflare, while you are viewing live times. It passes on the National Transport Authority’s network-wide feed, so the request is the same for every user.
- OpenFreeMap, to load map images for the area shown on screen.
These requests never include your location, your favourites or any identifier for you or your device. Like any internet connection, each service receives your phone’s IP address. The live departures service does not record it, and OpenFreeMap says its access logs do not contain IP addresses. User Journeys does not use IP addresses to work out where you are.
While timetables download or update, the app shows a progress notification. It is created on your phone; the app does not use a push notification service.
Retention and deletion
User Journeys does not retain user data or maintain user accounts, so it has no user data to delete. Live departure information is held in memory and discarded when the app process ends.
Timetables and favourites stay on your phone until you uninstall the app or clear its storage (Settings → Apps → Bus Journeys → Storage). If Android backup is turned on, your favourites may be included in your phone’s own backup to your Google account, which is managed by Google and your phone’s settings.
User Journeys cannot access or delete information processed by Transport for Ireland, Cloudflare or OpenFreeMap under their own privacy policies.
