A/B Testing

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing, or split testing, is a method of finding out which of two versions of a web page is more effective.

By showing one version of the page to half the website visitors and the vice versa, we can measure which page is more successful at achieving a pre-identified goal. An example of a goal is: the user clicks a membership sign-up button.

What are the benefits of A/B testing?

  • Testing is conducted with your actual users
  • Can be cheaper than other methods such as usability testing
  • Provides proof rather than opinions
  • Live tests are invisible to users
  • Allows you to trial new designs before full roll-out

What Should We Test?

Your choice of what to test will depend on your specific requirements. We will analyse your site and help determine what should be tested. However, certain elements are frequently tested, for example

  • Layout of pages
  • Use of images, especially in landing pages and product pages
  • Size, colour, placement and wording of headings
  • Amount and position of text on the page
  • Overall form design
  • Length and position of form fields and other form controls
  • Form labels and other text in forms
